Jordan Flagel

Jordan Flagel is Vice President and Lead Environmental Scientist at the IMARCS Foundation. He writes on sustainable development, blue carbon solutions, and marine science, and leads the work of quantifying the foundation's carbon removal activities and maximizing the environmental benefit of its mariculture practices.

He holds a Master of Science in Sustainable Resource Management and a Master of Science in Integrated Science and Technology. Over the past decade he has worked in reefs, mangroves, and tropical forests for NGOs and think tanks in Belize, Guyana, and Canada, including the United Nations Green Corps, Ecology Project International, the Canada West Foundation, and the International Institute for Sustainable Development.

  • Blue carbon accounting and carbon removal quantification in mariculture
  • Coral reef restoration, including thermal tolerance in reef symbionts
  • Mangrove ecosystem services: sediment carbon, pollutant and microplastic capture
  • Giant clam ecology and the case for responsible farming
